To become an Energy Advisor, candidates must complete the following steps:
 

1. Pass the NRCan Foundation Level Exam

2. Pass the NRCan Energy Advisor Exam (House)

3. Complete 6 probationary energy audits with any NRCan licensed service organization (2 observed, 2 solo, 2 supervised) 

4. Get registered as an Energy Advisor with NRCan and start working with an NRCan licensed service organization​​​​
