The popular Canada Green Home Grant program stopped accepting new applications in February 2024, but many Canadian homeowners remain unaware of the Canada Green Home LoanĀ program offered by the Government of Canada.
The Green Home Loan program offers interest-free financing ranging from $5,000 to $40,000 to Canadian homeowners, with a repayment period of 10-years, to make energy-efficient home upgrades. It aims to help Canadians lower energy bills, enhance home comfort and reduce carbon emissions by financing home retrofits such as heat pumps, energy-efficient windows, insulation and solar panels.
Homeowners who have already received a Green Home grant or requested a post-retrofit EnerGuide home energy audit, but have remaining retrofits they havenāt started, can still participate in the loan program by completing a new pre-retrofit energy audit.
This nationwide initiative is available for homes utilizing various fuel types, including electricity, propane, natural gas, wood or oil.
How To Apply
1. Conduct a pre-retrofit EnerGuide home energy audit, where a Registered Energy Advisor will provide recommendations for improving your homeās energy efficiency.
2. Obtain quotes from contractors based on the retrofit suggestions from your Registered Energy Advisor.
3. Apply for the loan through the Canada Green Home Loan Portal before starting any work.
4. Complete your retrofits after receiving loan approval.
5. Schedule a post-retrofit energy audit with your Registered Energy Advisor once all upgrades are finished.
6. Receive your loan amount and repay it over a period of 10 years.
